This week our team have looked at the most used Social Network in the UK. We looked at the market share that the main Social Networks had and surprise surprise there were was some unexpected news.

Working our way down the list the we start at the 7th most used Social Network.

7. LinkedIn - Surprisingly the business social Network LinkedIn is at the bottom of the list in the UK with a market share of only 0.65%

6. Pinterest - Pinterest hasn't got off to a great start in the UK like it did in the USA but results show that Pinterest was launched in the UK in March 2012 and in its first month gained more market share than LinkedIn. Pinterest at the moment remains the 6th most popular with a market share of 2.02%

5. Reddit has managed to keep a balanced market share over the 3 months and remains in 5th place in the UK with a market percentage of 4.61

4. YouTube owned by Google comes in at number 4 with a UK market share of 7.08%

3. StumbleUpon has had great success over the last 5 years after being bought by eBay in 2007 the Social Network had gone from strength to strength and since 2009 after being made an independant company StumbleUpon still ranks in the Top 3 in the UK with a market share of 11.61%

Now its time for the faceoff: Facebook VS Twitter and surprisingly the winner is way out in front.

2. Ranking in at Number 2 in the UK market share is Twitter. Twitter is at an all time high at the moment and we predict their market share will only grow more and more now businesses are using it to build relationships with clients and associates.

The Winner

1. Facebook's market share is more than 4 x larger than twitters and even though their market share contains a lot of ups and downs it still remains the top Social Network with a market share of 59.62%

Facebook's major rise came in the 4th quarter of 2009 where it rocketed from 31.37% to 77.81% in 2 months.

When is the best time to post content on social networking sites?

Social Networking has increased exponentially over the last few years and businesses looking to reach more people have taken to social networks like a duck to water. Having such platforms to work with can massively improve your company’s awareness but are you wasting your time? Media City Way are here to help and provide you with some information to make sure your time spent tweeting, sharing links etc are worth your time.

Did you know that the time and day you post to social networks can have a huge difference in you generating more traffic (to your website) and leads, we have put together a small article to show you when the best time is to post on twitter and Facebook.

Our results are from statistics recorded by bitly (The URL shortening service).

So when should I post on:

Facebook
The optimal time to share your content is between the hours of 1pm and 4pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The highest peak is recorded at 3pm on Wednesdays.

Twitter
The best time to tweet about your exciting new business offer (or other content) is shown to be between 1pm and 3pm, Monday through to Thursday.

When shouldn’t I post my content?

Evidence shows that Facebook and Twitter do not seem to generate a lot of click through links over the weekend and between 8pm - 8am during the week, Bitly claims that writers/editors are wise to wait. Tweets also be avoided after 3pm on a Friday.

Integrate your Blog, Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin Accounts

We took on the role of finding a way to help people submit posts to one account that would then be automatically posted to any other accounts. So here's the easiest way we found to do this in 5 simple steps:

Step 1 - Visit www.twitterfeed.com and sign up. This is FREE of charge.

Step 2 - You should be taken to a page called New Feed but if not, click the button Create New Feed

Step 3 - Enter the name you want to call your feed and enter your blog's URL, this can be any kind of blog such as Blogger and Wordpress. We went through the Advanced settings too so that our blog posts could be assigned URL's on twitter if the content was too much. You can do this too by Shortening your links through Bit.ly, if you dont have an account go to www.bitly.com and create an account, FREE of charge. You'll need to enter your API information on twitterfeed. Your API login is your username and your API key can be found by going into the settings area of your bit.ly account.

Step 4 - Now you see a list of available services, Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin. Simply click on the account you want to link you blog posts to and follow the easy instructions. You do not need to sign up to all the accounts if you do not want to. If you choose Facebook you will be asked if you want to submit blog posts to your page rather than your profile (if you are the admin of a page) or both.

Step 5 - Once you've finished adding your services click the All Done! button at the bottom of the page. Your blog posts will now be submitted to your selected accounts. Should you want to add an account later on you can do by signing back into your twitterfeed account and clicking on edit next to the feed you want to update.
