In Business In Bolton Expo

Media City Way took part in their first In Business In Bolton Expo yesterday and sponsored the speed networking part of the event.

There was a 60+ Exhibitors and the event was attended by well over 200 people. Sponsoring this event was a great way for our company to promote the fantastic work we do here. As well as providing the visitors with the vast amount of services we offer, whether it be Web Design, Development, Web Hosting, SEO we we're also proud that we were able to tell the visitors that the deals their current web designers and/or web hosting companies are offering were nowhere near the amount of service and features that we are offering at a better price, in some cases we were offering 10 times the amount for 55% less.

Passing our knowledge to our past, present and future customers is what Media City Way is all about, we cut out all the jargon so even the most un-computer savvy person understands how their website, hosting and optimisation works for them.

Sponsoring the event

Media City Way were in charge of organising and running the speed networking event at the event, this was a great chance not only for ourselves to meet new contacts and potential clients but also to look at new ways of expanding our business to offer customers even more and giving them 1 point of contact rather than multiple.

The worlds most popular web browser

This week our team have been looking into web browsers and in particular which is the most popular browser worldwide. The big names include Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari and Opera.

There was a time when Mozilla Firefox looked as if it would take over the market share until September 2008 when Google released Chrome. Since its release Chrome has gone from strength to strength and reports now show as of May 2012 Google Chrome is now the most popular web browser used worldwide after just  taking the lead from Internet Explorer.

Which Web Server should you choose?

This week our team have been looking into the differences between the open source Apache (Linux) servers and Microsoft's IIS servers to help you identify which server is more reliable and responsive for your website.

Firstly:

One misconception we hear about more and more is that people think you have to have to be running a Linux operating system on your computer to be able to host a website on a Linux server. This is not the case, it is irrelevant which operating system you are using on your computer.

So why choose Linux (Apache):

1. The main advantage of a Linux server is that it is open source. This means that these servers are far more cost effective than Microsoft servers.
2. Generally processes run faster on a linux server so load times are reduced.
3. Search Engine Optimisation loves Linux, due to you having more control over your server you gain gain a huge amount of assets when interacting with search engines and their robots.
4. Linux servers have an incredible record of reliability and speed and are least likely to crash as often as Microsoft IIS servers.
5. Linux supports a wide range of languages and databses such as PHP, Perl, PostGre, MySQL, PostgreSQL and many others which makes these servers extremely scalable.

So why choose Microsoft:

1. One of the biggest advantages of using a Windows server is that they can run Microsoft technologies such as Access and MS SQL databases.
2. Microsoft's programming environments such as Active Server Pages (ASP) and Visual Basic Scripts can be used without any extra modules Linux would need like Modmono, Chilisoft or Apache::ASP
3. Microsoft servers are more scalable than Linux servers and support everything Linux support as well as its own Microsoft services.

If you hadn't guessed it already

Media City Way would recommend you choose Apache (Linux) servers over Microsoft and any other server for that matter. Apache provides the most stable and responsive servers and are the best value for money.

The Web Browser Market share is forever changing so we took the time to research into which web browser was the fastest, after all nobody wants to wait longer than they need to for a webpage to load.

In our discoveries we noticed that the computers operating system played a major role in finding the fastest web browser. To simplify our findings we have split the results into Windows and Mac.
